Welcome to our historical house “zum Schwarzen Adler – to the black Eagle”. A family affair since 1825.

The Adlerhotel is located in the village center on the Sitter River. In our charming 400-year-old house and in the new building there are a total of 20 comfortably furnished rooms and suites. All have a private bathroom with a shower or bathtub and a toilet. As a hotel guest, you benefit from a nice selection of free digital TV and radio channels and free internet access (WLAN and LAN network connection). Subject to availability, we offer free charging for your electric car (22 kW). The hotel is smoke-free.

A tasteful breakfast is part of a successful start to the day – regardless of whether you then set off to the Alpstein by bike, on foot or by cable car. Our breakfast room is also your lounge and the round table is suitable for a cheerful game.

If you stay 3 nights or longer you get the Appenzell Holiday Card as a gift. Additionally you may get the free arrival and departure by public transportation from any place in Switzerland to Appenzell issued by the tourist board.

The Little Italy restaurant brings you culinary delicacies from Calabria to Appenzell. Enjoy the finest antipasti, secondi piatti, some homemade pasta and pizza and, at the end, a sweet dessert. Enjoy your meal & buon appetito!

Our hotel is equipped with 20 rooms. All of them have its own WC with shower or bathtub.

The Adler and Broger Suite are located in the unique & charming 400 years old wooden building. Most double rooms there are equipped with single beds (90 x 200 cm) made of European walnut. In some rooms are double beds (queen size 160 x 200 cm).

In the new, more quiet part of Adlerhotel, the rooms are equipped with solid oak wood. In some rooms there are single beds, in other double beds. Four rooms are equipped with a balcony.

In Summer you relax easily in comfortable garden furniture in the quiet backyard – Sonnendeck – behind the house. There you can enjoy also your breakfast.

Bicyles & bikers – welcome! We offer you a few parking spaces under the carport behind the hotel. Bicycles can be parked in our garage.

For New Yorkers it is the former Italian district of Manhattan in the USA. Appenzellers associate this name with hospitality, delicious Italian cuisine at fair prices. In the summer months, feast on delicious antipasti, pasta, pizza and dolci on the terrace.

Adlerkeller - dip in & enjoy delicious fondue!

Choose our best Adlerfondue – 300 grams per person – with bread and potatoes. Accompanied by an exquisite drop of wine from the Bündner Herrschaft, which enhance your fondue experience.

The unique ambience with a view of the over 450-year-old stones will transport you back to the late Middle Ages! Open during the winter season.

See and be seen – that is part of your experience on our spacious Garden terrace by the river Sitter. It was opened by our grandparents on August 1, 1957 and has always attracted people from near and far. What’s more refreshing than a homemade gelato?!

Two exciting works of art by Roman Signer have been installed at Adlerplatz since 2005. Can you spot them?!

Before the first rays of summer sun illuminate the garden terrace, enjoy a tasty meal from Little Italy in pleasant temperatures and quiet. Our sundeck is behind the house.

All around you can see typical Appenzell houses that were rebuilt after the village fire of 1560.

History

Originally called Oberegger Haus, the existing foundation walls of the old building date from before the village fire in 1560.

The house has been family-owned since 1825 and is now run by the Leu Heuberger family.
